36 years ago today, the Watergate break in. My earliest memories are of the hearings, news reports, I can remember the news reports of the Saturday Night Massacare. I remember hearing the names, watching the hearings with my grandfather. I can't say I remember the details, understanding what was going on, but some of it is there. I am putting together a more detailed post on Nixon for the future, but wanted to mention it today because of the date. Here are three very interesting links for Watergate info:

The "official" story as The Washinton Post sees it.

And two "alternative" theory sites:

The Nixon Era Center

Silent Coup, which is based on an excellent book of the same name

I can't believe it's been that long. I used to run into Frank Sturgis in La Carreta every so often. He seemed like a nice man. Ironically, my husband (whom I didn't know at the time worked with another of the burglars Rolando Martinez (I think that was his name) at Anthony Abraham in Miami. Small world. I distinctly remember the day Nixon resigned as I was going to Miami Dade Jr. College (my first term and I only attended there one year) and every one stopped to watch the speech . . .

More trivia: In the book "Girl Interrupted" there is a character of a young man who is in the mental institution in the 1970's and claims his dad works for the CIA and tried to kill Castro. It turns out that young man was E. Howard Hunt's son . . . so maybe the kid was not all that delusional. . .

.I met Sturgis once as well!! I happened to be in the waiting room at a doctors office reading "All The President's Men" at the time!! I even asked him to sign it and he did, laughed a bit, and asked what a young kid was doing reading the book, I most have been 12 or 13 at the time, kinda young at the time.

I can imagine his shock at seeing a kid reading that book. . . too cute.
